Prison Fellowship Prayer Team

Prayer Team: Stephany's mom is in prison for abusing and neglecting this precious child of God. "It made me sad living with her," Stephany says.

Yet Stephany's grin at Angel Tree camp last summer showed that she was surrounded by people who care for through Angel Tree.

“You can meet new friends and new counselors that are amazing,” Stephany says of her time at camp. “And I learned that Jesus changes our lives. He’s the number one person on my top list of favorites!”

Please pray for Stephany -- and the 7,500 prisoners' children like her who will be attending Angel Tree camps this summer. Pray that they will find the hope, love, and change that only Jesus can bring.

Anne L. Lord, I beg you to bring joy and happiness to these little ones who you cherish so greatly and who so deserve our love. Let them rejoice in the knowledge and relationship with You as they enjoy their time at camp. Please, Lord, be constantly with the counselors at the camp so that they may understand the needs of each individual child, so that they can provide what these children need so badly. Please,Lord, let your Spirit fill each and every child and adult at the camp, so that the time is filled with your lovingkindness, peace, and joy.Lord, be with these children during their time at camp and always, to offer them solace and comfort from a life that we know can be filled with disappointment and sadness. I pray to You, Lord, knowing your special love for children, and I thank You, Lord, for being there with them now and always.
Amen.

Prayer Team: This week, on May 16th, will be the national memorial service for Chuck Colson at the Washington National Cathedral.

Please continue to pray for Chuck’s widow, Patty, and the rest of the Colson family. They are now entering a new and difficult phase of grief as the reality sets in that Chuck is at Home with His Heavenly Father but not at their earthly home when they arrive there. They will experience many moments of grief and exhaustion as God carries them gently and faithfully to healing and wholeness.

Please ask God to comfort them by the constant, reassuring presence of His Holy Spirit. Pray for all those who knew and loved Chuck and now struggle through sadness as we carry out his legacy.

Finally, please ask God to show us how best to honor Chuck’s memory as we move forward in the work He has given us to do. Pray that He would grant us the fortitude to “man our posts and do our duty,” as Chuck would say, for the glory of Jesus’ name, and for the sake of the least, lost, and lonely!

Sherry J. Father, Chuck's deat reminds me that You have numbered our days according to the perfect plan You have for our lives. Lord, please bring Your comfort to those hurting, missing this man they treasured. I pray for Your wisdom to lead those trying to fill these missing shoes. What a hero he's been to me, and what a reminder of how mightily God can work in a life totally yielded to Him. Praise You for doing "all things well" even when we can't possibly feel this is "well" now. "Be still and KNOW that I am God."

Susan K. Beloved Heavenly Father, Glorious in Majesty, Abounding in steadfast love and mercy, we give You praise for the life of our brother in Christ, Chuck Colson, and exalt You for the ways You redeemed him and used his life to reach many for Your kingdom. As the God of all comfort, be with Chuck’s family, friends and colleagues in their time of loss. Give us each some part of the charge You gave Him so that we may carry on the legacy of his life and ministry in a way that pleases you and honors the Name of Christ for it is in His Name this prayer is offered. Amen.

Janice G. Heavenly Father, I come alongside all my brothers and sisters in Christ today who are lifting up the Colson family to You for special blessings of comfort, love and peace that passes understanding. Give the Colsons times of solitude when they can process their grief alone with You and the Holy Spirit guiding them through it as only You can. I pray that those who are their support group, their inner circle of family and friends, will be guided also by the Holy Spirit into what to say at the proper time. Ease the family through this grieving time Lord always reminding them that Chuck is in heaven where they, too, will at some point be. I pray for the dedicated staff of PFM to also find consolation through the Holy Spirit's direction. Keep them steady upon their posts doing their duty as You and Chuck would have them to be doing. May they follow the light of Jesus where it leads in shining the love of Christ into the lives of prisoners and their families. And Lord, again this day I lift up the children of prisoners who are missing their fathers and mothers who are absent from their homes this day. Comfort them and give them an abundance of Your wise provision of physical, spiritual and emotional needs met in Your most loving manner. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen

Wren S. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Dear Heavenly Father,
Your word says “weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning”.
When Lazarus died, Jesus wept for him. Mary and Martha complained to Jesus that if he had only come sooner their brother would not have died. I know that You have perfect timing Lord. When Jesus raised his friend from the dead, You received much more glory than if Jesus had healed him.
The body of Christ here on earth has been blessed to have Chuck Colson for 80 years. I know that he died on your timetable not ours. We are so reluctant to let go of our friends and loved ones.
I remember the pain I felt when my dad, at the age of 60, passed into Your Heavenly Kingdom. I was just thirty years old. Now I know that You didn’t take him from us but received him unto yourself. What a difference that knowledge and understanding can make.
I pray that Chuck’s wife Patty and his whole family will come together at this time of grief and support one another. A death can often tear families apart. Because of your Perfect Gift, who died for our sins, we know that we can have eternal life. Let us be ever mindful of this.
I know that there is a time for mourning and a time for rejoicing. I pray for ALL of those mourning the loss of a husband, father, or loved one; that they would receive the “peace that passes all understanding”.
I also ask that You give guidance and direction for those at the helm of the Prison Fellowship Ministry; that as they seek you they will see clearly the paths that You are opening up for them. I also pray for all of the support staff, volunteers and prayer warriors; that they be able to fight the fiery slings and arrows of the enemy.
Thank you for the plentiful grace and mercy You give to us; may we always be grateful and full of Your joy. Amen

Sharon B. God, ONLY you can touch our pain. Most humans can’t even come close. ONLY you can heal us, no human can. No human can comfort as completely as you do God. I pray that this family & ministry FEEL your Holy Presence. Lead them, guide them & comfort them as ONLY you can Holy Spirit. When we lost my grandmother a few years ago, I stood by her bed & claimed the JOY that God promises. “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5 The longest night I ever had, as she bled to death. This life is hard, but it is impossible without you God. Touch as only you can God. Amen

Chet N. I remember at my Grand Father's funeral the preacher commented we weep because we selfishly miss his presence, but the preacher said we should instead rejoice because he is in heaven with Jesus. When my Father died several years later I remember rejoicing at his funeral and his funeral turned from sorrow into joy. I pray the family will find comfort in knowing Chuck is rejoicing in heaven and he waits for his family to join him. Amen

E P. Lord Jesus,
Though we do not grieve as others do, we do grieve. Our eternal hope is our solace and we thank You for the Cross. Thank You for loving us.

Life in earth is difficult most days but complicated more by missing those we hold dear. We hear their laugh, respond to the time slots that were dedicated to them, miss them in their church pews. Comfort us, Jesus.

We delegate their work here in earth to others who are equally competent and different in style and manner. Help us remember that all authority comes from God and each is charged with the appropriate use of the gifts and talents given us by You. All things come of You and we give only that which has been given to us. Let us be honored to serve You.

Bless daily and routine plans that ordinary life remain uncomplicated. Bless the gigantic leaps forward as well giving glorious opportunity to Your people. Remember us kindly and strengthen us according to Your good will. We ask for extra care for family, friends, ministry, leaders, and workers. Help us, we pray, in Your strong Name to the Way everlasting. Amen.

Anne L. Dear Lord;
We beseech you, beg you for guidance through these times to do Your Will. Lead our steps forward on the path that You want us to follow, showing us the signs through Your Word and Your whispers. We know that Chuck has returned home, and we beg Your mercy and protection for those he has left behind. Show us, Lord, the way You want us to follow to continue the work of reaching those who are the least among us. Give us the strength to carry on Your work, Lord, and protect us from the vagaries of the world that surround us and tempt us from Your path. We pray, Lord, that You put Your arms around those left behind, and allow Your peace to suffuse them, understanding that Chuck has reached Your eternal peace and joy, and that death has lost the power of its sting. Thank You, Lord, for giving us Chuck, and thank You, Lord, for giving us the understanding of Your blessings of peace and joy. May Your peace shower on those remaining here until Your call reaches each of us.

Janice G. Heavenly Father, Thank You for a new day and new ways to see glory brought to You. On this day folks are in grief, sad because of the passing of Chuck Colson who brought so much glory to You. I pray especially for his wife Patty and his children who are attending special remembrance activities. Give them stamina and unusual emotional strength to go through the ceremonies but then after the big occasions come the day to day moments of realization that Chuck is just not at home with them now. He is thankfully in that glorious home with You. But for the moment he is absent from the physical presence of his loved ones. Keep his family and friends ever mindful that he is with Jesus now and in the best of company. Please, Holy Spirit, aid these grieving people. Be their divine advisor in their times of need. I also pray for the workers who will be taking on responsibilities that Chuck has moved on from. Please may his legacy be carried forward in an excellent manner, pleasing to You, and always showing Christ to be an ever present help in the lives of prisoners and their families. I pray in the name of Jesus, who loved us and gave His life for us so we may one day see Chuck in heaven. Amen

Prayer Team: "Every night, I get down on my knees, and I pray to God," says an Angel Tree child named Shae. "I ask him why my life has to be so hard. But I haven't gotten an answer. And I'm starting to doubt that He hears my prayers at all."

Please pray for all of the prisoners' children, like Shae, whose hearts are burdened by painful circumstances far beyond their control. Pray that they will tangibly experience God's presence in their lives, and find purpose and hope even in the midst of their trials.

We each have our concerns according to where You have placed us and what You make us aware of. I pray for Shae. May Shae learn to feel Your peace during the waiting for Your answer. Sometimes Your answer is a surprise to us because it can be to give us contentment and peace that passes understanding. Thank You, Father God, for Your provision through the inspiration and compassion of Chuck Colson to be concerned for the prisoners and their children. He has been the mastermind behind the tremendous outreach by Prison Fellowship. Please help all who are left to work together to fill his shoes and may those shoes keeping walking right in pace with Jesus. Thank You for enabling the ministry to continue. May it be a worthy memorial to the life of Chuck Colson and at the same time bring much eternal glory to You through lives saved. Eva B. Dear Shae, the hardship of your life is not God's choice for you, and it certainly isn't your fault. Its the result of living in a fallen world where we, as a human race, are constantly slamming the door in God's face, denying His right to intervene, and even His very existence. Please know that you are not alone. You have believers standing with you, earnestly praying and fighting against the darkness and the defense-line of Satan, pushing against that door to open it even a crack to let God's light come flooding in. Don't believe the lie of the enemy. God hasn't abandoned you. He is tenderhearted and compassionate towards you. He is also the mighty Deliverer. Choose to believe that heaven can reach you in the midst of your hell. That's what faith is - and its powerful.

Catherine S. Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for saving my earthly father, Rudie, when he was in prison, through Jesus, before he died.

Please help Shae to experience Your presence and find hope and purpose in Jesus, despite whatever the trials, and to not want to give up on or doubt You.

Please provide clarity of vision for Prison Fellowship and its leadership during their time of transition.

Thank You for these things and all You are doing, in Jesus name, Amen.

Carol C. For Shae's heart and for every other child whose heart is crying out to God---be encouraged my little friends! # Psalm 55:17
Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.
Psalm 55:17
"Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and HE HEARS MY VOICE". Keep reading b/c Psalm 69:33says "The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people." Then in 1 John 5:14 it says "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that IF WE ASK anything ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, he hears us. Shae, you TRUE FATHER, your HEAVENLY FATHER, The LORD God, the CREATOR of all earth---He stands ready to heart and answer your prayers---But first YOU must hear HIS Voice. How? Open the Bible and start reading. Start with the book of John. He, the LORD, has so much to say to you...and as you spend time reading the Word, your spiritual ears are opened. Your spiritual eyes begin to see His Presence is really surrounding you and upholding you. You are HIS precious possession. He is the very air you breathe. Oh how He loves you. TAKE HIM AT HIS WORD, SHAE, AND YOU WILL FIND THAT HE IS LISTENING AND THAT HE IS FAITHFUL!...

Wren S. Dearest Heavenly Father, so great is your faithfulness. I know that whatever I ask of you that aligns with Your will shall be granted. This morning I pray for Shae and others like her to feel your comforting and merciful love. It is not only Shae or other children who wonder about unanswered prayers or if You are even listening. I think we have all at one time or another wondered why it seemed that our prayers were being ignored. It took me a long time to understand that sometimes the answer was no or wait. Sometimes you had something much greater in store for me. I also found that when you did answer some prayers, it was in your timing and brought you the most glory. Sometimes you told me no and that “your grace was sufficient for me.” These concepts can be hard enough for an adult to understand and to accept. For a child it would be that much harder. So I pray dear Lord that you would place “your faithful servants” in prominent places in these sweet angels’ lives. Let the light of your love shine through us, so that others would be able to know of your mercy and grace.
I pray this morning for all the Prison Fellowship volunteers and especially for those who work with the families of the prisoners. I ask that you give the volunteers the right words to help those struggling with believing in you and in all their varied hardships that come with being part of a fragmented family.
I thank you for all the prayer warriors that have signed up to support this wonderful ministry that Chuck Colson founded. May it not only have continued success but that it shall blossom and grow it ways only you can fathom.
I ask for special blessings for those who will be shortly going into the different prisons. I pray that they would be surrounded with your guardian angels and protected from all unrighteousness. May you have a fruitful harvest.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or
weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who
sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless
the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the
joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen. BCP 1979

E P. Dear Jesus,

Shae is like most of Your family; Shae has doubts about You. We believe that if You loved us, we would live happily ever after - according to our versions of our salvation story. We have observed that some of us do - or seem to - and this causes us to be confused by their apparent success when we compare it to our own.

So, with Shea, we respectfully question Your loyalty to us. We ask that You encourage us as we learn that our ideas are not Your glorious ideas. That these present doubts and struggles will not now or ever negate Your personal care for us as we live life in earth as Your people. Give us the vision to see and know that we are entirely victorious in the Cross. That You never abandon us because You have ppromised this

Prayer Team: "I'm slipping," an ex-prisoner recently wrote. Such a little phrase -- and yet so unsettling.

Today, please pray for all of the prisoners, ex-prisoners, prisoner's children -- and yes, even volunteers -- who feel like they are "slipping." Pray that they will cling to Jesus and stand steadfast. Pray that they will continue to choose the narrow path that leads to LIFE in Jesus Christ.

Reverend Shalom Muwanguzi . Dear Father in heaven, we bless you for all that you are doping for us and you are set to do. Our Lord and savior, we bless you for the lives of men and women in the Prisons, these are your people and they are a treasure personalities to you.We have heard and seen how they want to slip back to where they were redeemed by you, when they received salvation through your son Jesus Christ.Lord we lift them into your hands once again ,and we pray that you root and establish them in your house forever, for those who are planted in your house do flourish evermore. We pray lord that you cause them to be steadfast and to run the race of salvation through your grace. For your grace is sufficient at our weakest, lord strengthen them and establish their destinies in your kingdom. We confront every spirit of backsliding and we frustrate all its efforts to claim the precious lives back to the kingdom of darkness. Jesus you came destroy the works of the evil one, destroy every plan of the wicked to reclaim these precious people. We command Satan to lose his grip on these ones and we declare liberty for them,we decree their freedom from every agent of the enemy in the name of Jesus. Whatever challenges or situations may be confronting them, I pray that they will look on to the hills from where their help comes. Lord, let them see you bigger than their problems or circumstances or temptations. When the enemy comes against them like a flood, Lord raise you standard against it. I decree that none of these ones that you have brought to yourself will fall away. Your word says that what we commit into your hands, you are able to keep. We present these ones for safekeeping Lord and we thank you that they are safe. Thank you in Jesus name.

Susan K. Most Gracious and Merciful Heavenly Father, I come boldly to Your Throne of Grace as the One is able to keep Your Children from stumbling and to present us before Your glorious presence without fault and with great joy. I humbly ask that You show Yourself strong and immediate in that to those inmates, former inmates, inmates families and those who minister in and/or volunteer in prisons who feel they are slipping in their walk with You. I rejoice that Your Arm is not too short to save nor Your ears dull to our cries for help, that underneath us are Your Everlasting Arms and that Your stand ever-ready to pardon and restore so that there is no fear in coming to You to confess our sins to be cleansed of them and be made right again with You. Though we may fall we are not utterly destroyed nor are we cast out for You condescend to reach us and lift us up. Help us, as well to gain strength in our spiritual legs and ankles that we may not falter nor slip and fall when problems or temptations arise. Embue us with spiritual fortitude and steadfastness so that we may walk with You through the valleys or on the mountains with joy and peace as if it were all unhampered and level ground. Help us to do the work of preparing your High way of holiness that makes the high places low, the low places level and the rough places plain so those who come behind us may not be stumbled and that You may be exalted and honored in it. To the only Wise God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore for it is in His Name that I offer this prayer. Amen.

Would either of you mind if I copied your lovely prayers? I am collecting them and someday hope to possibly use them in a book. I would of course give you both the credit if I am ever able to do this. My son-in-law is in a prison ministry in his church and I thought they might be able to use these prayers and others like them... If you rather that I not, I understand.
Thank you in the name of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Wren S. Oh Most Gracious and Merciful Father, blot out my offences. Drop them in the sea of forgetfulness. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. A broken and contrite heart is what you desire. We all have sinned and fallen short.
I know that I didn’t always walk the walk and talk the talk; even though I believed I was a Christian. It is so easy to back slide with the enemy nipping at my heels.
When I learned to rely only on you Lord, I was set free. I don’t have to worry about what I will eat or what I shall wear. You have provided my shelter for me and you meet all my needs. It all belongs to you Lord. I know I just have it on loan. I thank you for the experiences that lead me to this wonderful freedom you offer. I lost almost everything. I lost my health 30 years ago. Then in 1996, I lost my job, ministry, house, husband, car, my dear pets and more. I had no money and didn’t know where I was going to live Lord, yet You provided everything for me. You did it all in the very last minute when You would get all the Glory. I do praise You Father God.
I feel like I was the prodigal daughter returning home and You were there waiting with open arms.
I pray for all the prisoners; those still incarcerated and those that have been released. I pray for family members, friends and Prison Fellowship volunteers. My pray is that they not be:
TEMPTED, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” 1st Corinthians 10:13 and “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
DISCOURAGED, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, 'Destroy him!' “Deuteronomy 33:27
FEARFUL, “The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
LONELY, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Hebrews 13:5b.
or DOUBTFUL, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Isaiah 26-3 NLT.
I know that with you Lord, nothing is impossible. I pray all hearts be softened and accept you into their life forever.
May we who are the body of Christ here on earth, recognize and do that which You would have us do in helping to shepherd Your flock. Let us be open to that “still small voice” and heed your directions.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow; there is a mighty power in praise! Amen

SHARON C. Heavenly father,I ask that you give me the guidance to follow the narrow path that is ahead of me. That I may keep my covenant with you. Jill L. Father God, I read this prayer request and my heart is saddened for the plight of those who are struggling. Your word says "But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,I wait for God my Savior;my God will hear me. Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. Lord my prayer is for your Holy Spirit to be poured out unto those who are "slipping". Thank you for being our Savior. Lord, teach those who are slipping to call upon your name in times of trouble. In their darkness be the light they need. Lord bind the enemy from them. Hear our prayers oh Lord for we our in need of rescue. Rescue us from the enemy oh Lord for we put our trust in you. In the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer let all those who call upon your name be strengthened with the mighty power of your Spirit. Lord, we praise you for your goodness towards us. We praise you for your mercies that are new everyday. Let the morning bring them word of your unfailing love. You alone are worthy of our praise. Thank you for hearing and answering our prayers. Thank you Father for your son who died that we may have life eternal. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

E P. Yes, Lord Jesus, we are slipping. We have forgotten that You are the Author and Finisher of our faith and that our rest is in You. We have often thought that there is something that we can do for You, and this blinds us to the completeness of the Cross. We are accosted by the accuser when we do slip and forget to run directly to Your Grace with our sincere confession of our guilt. We forget that You love us with a compassion that we do not yet understand.

Help and forgive us, Jesus. Give us eyes to see our place in Your Heart so that we may live successfully as Your chosen people, covered in Your kindness. Lord, give us peace. Amen.
